Discourse on Colonialism - Appreciation of Humanities
After reading Aime Césaire’s Discourse on Colonialism, reflect on the following question or paradox that will thus guide your comments: how it is that Western ideas about universal humanity (which eventually led to modern ideas of human rights) emerged historically alongside Western imperialism, racism, and the like? How Western imperial powers, and the peoples they colonized, conceptualized the nature of humanity and human difference, and second, how these ideas took shape in structuring colonial societies.
